On-site investigation: the Castle of Trani (Apulia, Italy)
Overview

The Castle of Trani (Apulia, Italy) is one of sites in the reference territories to be catalogued and investigated by “3D-IMP-ACT” project. The fortress (built since the 1233 AC), located on the northwest coastline of the ancient town of Trani, has a quadrangular plan protected by towers and bastions, as well as by a large moat.

The first activity consisted in drawing up a technical report about the main characteristics of the Federician fortress: dimension, date of construction, level of accessibility, architectural and construction information, etc.

Moreover, the “Work Package 2 - Implementation T.1” concerns on-site investigations, starting from the acquisition of high-resolution videos and images by drone (UAV) of pilot cases, in order to elaborate thematic virtual tours through 360° panoramic pictures for semantic illustration of historical and architectural values, based on inter-regional connections among different sites.
